The Facebook Baby

The Facebook Baby

It became an international media phenomenon - A child born in the midst of the Egyptian uprising named after social media site Facebook.

Many have credited Facebook and other social media for the Egyptian people’s successful uprising against president Hosni Mubarak. So much so Egypt’s efforts in the Arab Spring was quickly nicknamed the “Facebook Revolution”. But did one father have so much faith in social media’s ability to topple Mubarak’s regime, he actually named his newborn daughter Facebook?

Director Petr Lom took to the streets of Cairo to search for the Facebook baby.

The Facebook Baby is a ten minute prologue to the documentary feature Back the Square.
